Ground Granulated Blastfurnace Slag (GGBS)

GGBS is manufactured from blastfurnace slag, a by-product from the manufacture of iron.

The main use of GGBS is in concrete, where it typically replaces between 20 and 80 per cent of the normal Portland cement.

  • Concrete containing GGBS is less permeable and chemically more stable than normal concrete, which enhances the resistance to many forms of deleterious attack
